DTN Closing Grain Comments 08/25 13:45
Row Crops Continue to Climb After USDA Rating Cut
Soybeans recovered Monday's losses as anxiety over the White House sanction
plan eased with China criticizing the action but for now no notable tension has
arisen and President Xi's visit to Washington D.C. in late September appears to
still be on track to occur. Meanwhile, USDA cut corn, soybean, and spring wheat
crop ratings in Monday's report -- leading corn futures to a fifth straight
session higher and deeper into three-year highs for most active futures. Wheat
futures swiftly rejected overnight losses with Monday's rumors of negotiations
in the Black Sea once again appear to have very little substance. Crude oil
futures (and other energies) fell on Tuesday, the first back-to-back lower
sessions for WTI futures since the first week of August as for now traders
appear to be rescaling their risk outlook in case the tighter sanctions are
effective in restarting negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
